The hellebore, commonly known as the Lenten Rose (Helleborus orientalis), is a springtime perennial that is native to Europe and Asia. In Indiana, the Lenten Roses that I planted in my garden are some of the first flowers to bloom at the end of winter/beginning of spring. They bring a hopeful reminder that spring is on the way and that the dreary winter days are on the way out. I love the variety of colors that are available. The Father of the Bride variety almost looks tropical with its dotted pink texture.
